An open call for artists to create a mural on the factory’s facade

Create a mural in the Gzhel style for the Gzhel Porcelain Factory! We are looking for talented artists, illustrators, and graffiti artists who want to leave their mark on the history of Russian folk art. Your task is to design a large-scale mural that will adorn the walls of one of the main symbols of folk art, the Gzhel Porcelain Factory. The mural can be very traditional or, on the contrary, a super-modern take on Gzhel.

Project Details

• Main wall: 17.7 m (length) × 12 m (height) – 4 floors with windows (6 windows in each row).
• Additional wall (adjoining at a corner): 6.7 m (length) × 12 m (height) – without windows.
• Style: Gzhel (blue-and-white cobalt painting, floral and animalistic motifs, traditional patterns, or reinterpretation experiments).
• Technique: Graffiti, acrylic painting, or other durable techniques for the facade.

What do we expect from the participants?
✅ A concept sketch (digital or drawn) with detailed work.
✅ Description of the idea (how the work is related to Gzhel, and what elements are used).
✅ Portfolio (previous works, especially related to traditional art or murals).

How will the selection process be conducted?
1. Applications are accepted from May 27 to June 15, 2025.
2. Selection of finalists: until June 20, 2025.
3. Presentation and finalization of the sketches.
4. Selection of the winner, whose work will be displayed on the factory wall!

What will the winner get?
• Fee (the amount is discussed individually).
• Assistance in implementation (materials, forests, and process organization).
• Media and social media publications about the plant.
• Mentioned as the author of the mural on all information materials.
